Economic Illiteracy Abounds

[Today's post is by Jerry Robinson, financial advisor, speaker, ministry founder, and author of the forthcoming book, Bankruptcy of Our Nation: 12 Key Strategies for Protecting Your Finances in These Uncertain Times. The book will be released by New Leaf Press in March 2009.]

One of the things I noticed during my research for my upcoming book, Bankruptcy of Our Nation, was the astounding lack of economic understanding among the American media and the general population. Economic literacy appears to have reached an all-time low in America. In fact, economic literacy has become so scarce that many well-intentioned citizens have had to resort to getting their economic education from AM radio or, even worse, from network news.

Now the problem with this is that economics is not primarily political in nature. While it certainly has political aspects, it becomes convoluted when it is over-politicized. This is certainly what has happened today.

I can recall speaking and writing about the economy prior to the events of the housing and credit crises of 2008 and 2009, and I recall that it was much easier to present the real economic issues that were confronting our nation. Today, however, the real economic issues that are threatening our Republic have become overshadowed by political wrangling and rhetoric. This rhetoric has served only to disguise the real economic crisis that is looming on the not-so-distant horizon.

We have a responsibility as American citizens to understand the economic problems that are really confronting our nation. If we wish to remain a free people, we desperately need to get to the heart of the matter.

In Bankruptcy of Our Nation, I provide an overview of the 5 most important economic trends confronting our nation. Best of all, I have done my best to ensure that these trends are examined in a non-partisan manner. Human governments, inspired by the political parties that control them, inevitably destroy the empires they set out to build. Seeking refuge in political systems in the final stages of a declining empire has rarely produced the desired result. Instead, individuals who wish to preserve and protect their nation should begin at home by taking care of their own families and their own financial houses.

Do you believe that the financial future of America is uncertain? If so, what have you done to protect yourself and your family? In Bankruptcy of Our Nation, I provide 12 practical key strategies that you can use right now to protect yourself and your family from the greatest debtor nation in world history: the United States of America.
